The Circular Economy Report 2021, by the Energy & Strategy Group of the School of Management of the Politecnico di Milano, has released the conclusions of the survey conducted on operators in six macro-sectors relevant to the Italian economy (construction, automotive, plant engineering, food, consumer electronics, furniture and furnishings).

The key figure that emerges from the report is the estimated annual savings of around €100 billion for Italian industries if circular economy management practices were adopted.

In summary, it is clear from this study that the circular economy is a very important economic resource for industries and not only for the environment.

Which industries would benefit the most? The construction industry with €37 billion per year, the food sector with €20.2 billion and the automotive sector with €18.2 billion. Between the three of them, they would account for 75% of the total savings of all Italian industry.

Systems as a solution to the current crisis

Systems as a solution to the current crisis

The difficult historical period we are living through has made the recovery of raw materials increasingly complicated. For this reason, it has become crucial to equip oneself with a system that allows the recovery of production waste and offers the possibility of extending the life cycle of products and resources.

As well as reducing the use of raw materials and the production of waste, it allows economic savings and develops user awareness, fulfilling three specific functions: exchange, sharing and collection.

In particular, the report also shows that companies are focusing on product design to reduce environmental impact and reuse materials within their production systems.

In the post-Covid era, a model based on the potentially infinite re-use of waste produced by the various industrial sectors will be indispensable in order to cope with the shortage of raw materials.
